At the Jordan River, Jesus steps into the water to be baptized by John. The heavens open, the Spirit descends like a dove, and the Father's voice declares delight over the Son. This moment reveals who Jesus is and launches His public ministry. As you lead, help children hear God's heart of love in Christ: You are My beloved.

"What is something kind or encouraging someone has said to you?"
Before Kids Arrive:
- Lay the blue cloth ("river") near the front.
- Place the dove visual where kids will see it during the story.
- Pray that every child will hear God's love today.
"Who has said something kind to you lately? How did it make you feel? Today we hear God's kind words to Jesus—and His love for us in Jesus."

- Invite kids to share one kind sentence they could say to a friend.
- Write a few on the board: "I'm glad you're here." "You are a good friend."

Bible Time Rhyme (with motions)

God's Word is true, for me and you!"
Storytelling (Matthew 3:13–17)
- Jesus comes from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
- John hesitates: "I need to be baptized by you," but Jesus says, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness."
- As Jesus is baptized, the heavens open and the Spirit of God descends like a dove and rests on Him.
- A voice from heaven says: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
Object Moments – River, Dove, Voice
- Point to the blue "river": "Jesus chose obedience."
- Hold up the dove: "The Holy Spirit is with Jesus—and with us."
- Place a hand near ear: "The Father speaks love and delight."
Discussion Prompts
- "What did the Father say about Jesus?"
- "How do you think Jesus felt hearing those words?"
- "What do God's words tell us about our identity in Jesus?"
"Our truth today is: Jesus is God's beloved Son, and we are loved in Him. In Jesus, God calls us His children and delights in us."
Teach with motions:
- Point upward ("This is my Son")
- Hands over heart ("whom I love")
- Thumbs-up and smile ("well pleased")
Faith
Help children connect God's delight to daily life. God's love is not earned; it is received in Jesus and shapes our choices.
- "What do you think God loves about how He made you?"
- "How can you remember God's love when you are sad or nervous?"
- "What is one kind choice you can make because God loves you?"
- "What does it mean to live like a loved child of God?"
- "How does the Spirit help you follow Jesus?"
- "Where could you speak life-giving words to someone this week?"
Interactive Faith Response – I Am Loved
- Give each child a small card. On top, write: "God delights in me."
- Children draw or write one way they will follow Jesus this week (tell the truth, help, forgive, pray).
- Tape cards around the "God's Delight" heart poster.
"Because God loves us in Jesus, we can love others with our words and actions."
Identity
